We offer a full grading syllabus at the club and the grading system that we follow is the same as traditional martial arts that use a coloured belt , as we dont wear traditiona gi,s im Vale-Tudo we have incorporated the coloured t-shirt system. All beginers start by wearing a white t-shirt , either their own or a club one with the logo on it ( cost £10 ) then work their way through the syllabus onto black grade. The syllabus which the student follows has set techniques that they will need to demonstrate a level of competency in to gain.Students will also need to demonstrate technical ability , skill level , good development , discipline , suppleness , attendance and fighting spirit.
Gradings are designed to show an all round ability and knowledge of the system that they train in , i firmly believe that its very important to grade for several reasons. The syllabus is set out so that in order to pass a grade the student must not just have one or two techniques that they can do very well but an all round ability..Gradings are an excellent way to test your ability , not just the techniques used in competition. The early grades concentrate on basics and i have found by instilling strong basics from the start and by testing them at an early time in the students training , prevents them from getting into bad habits that would be difficult to get out of later..
A very small percentage of students will go onto compete but there are many more that all-be-it good enough to compete wont for various reasons , there will be students who just dont want to compete , gradings therefore are a great way for the student to test themselves and gives them something to aim for in their training..
